CASE STUDY:
It is a very important aspect to note that these days nobody stays in the same company for long. Everyone of us wants to shift to a better place as experience grows. The same is true with the healthcare industry.
Instead of the factor ‘Survival’, its ‘Excellence’ that has become the key word in today’s hospital industry. This in turn demands for an excellent manpower. Forget about the fact that there is need for excellent manpower, it has become tough to meet the very high demand with the available supply. The demand-supply gap is extremely high with relation to the manpower requirements.
Talking about manpower, the status of nursing staff is at its worst. It is estimated that by the end of 2012, there would be a shortage of about 5,00,000 Doctors and 10,00,000 nurses in India, while the capacity for the medical education in India is only 31,000 per year. No wonder that the cost of manpower resources is increasing day each day. Companies are literally bidding for good talent and attracting them with tempting salaries and designations. Undoubtedly, for any HR in the healthcare industry, retaining its employees is the need of the hour.
The attrition rates are quite high in this field. With attrition, the organization loses key skills, knowledge and business relationships. To find a substitute is always a key challenge in this case. The hospital has to invest a lot while recruiting an employee. But the situation gets worse when attrition happens at a key skill position, as there is already a scarcity of such resources in the market. So how does one deal with such a situation?
Recruiting and retaining nurses is fast becoming a point of concern for Indian hospitals. According to HR experts, attrition rate among nurses is the highest, varying from 28 per cent and 35 per cent as compared to the average 10.1 per cent in the healthcare sector. Estimates suggest that the nurse to population ratio is 1:1,264 in India, while it is 1:100-200 in Europe.
Attrition rates among nurses are the highest because of their high demand in foreign countries. There has been a faster rate of nurses leaving the country, over the last couple of years, for jobs in the Middle East, UK or the US. India churns out the highest number of trained nurses in the world and mature nursing professionals are opting out of the system and following other growth opportunities.
Because of the acute shortage, many hospitals are today hiring unregistered nurses to cope with their basic needs. Also, poaching of staff from other hospitals has become rampant. The constant churn in nursing staff inevitably means a huge monetary drain for hospitals which have to constantly plough in more funds for training.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
The task assigned to you is as follows:
1.Design a strategy to handle the nursing manpower requirement, from recruitment to retrenchment.
2.Design a retention tool for the nursing staff in Indian hospitals.
RULES:
1.This competition is open only to students pursuing full time Masters Courses (MHA/MPH/MBA/PGDM or any equivalent to these courses).
2.Each team should consist of 2-3 members.
3.A team name has to be given and registrations to be done in the given format.
4.No individual can be a part of more than one team.
5.The team members should belong to the same institution.
6.The deadlines are to be strictly followed. Any entry or registration beyond the deadline will not be considered.

THE EVENT WOULD COMPRISE OF TWO ROUNDS:
Round 1:
The registrations are open now and end on the last date for submission of first round of the competition.
For registrations to the Poster Presentation Competition, the teams have to register with the following details:

The above details have to be sent to 2012clairvoyance@gmail.com within the last date. The subject name should be in the format ‘Clairvoyance_Postercompetition_Team Name’. All correspondences would be made with the team leader.
The submissions should adhere to the following guidelines (Both are mandatory):
1.A PowerPoint format. There should be a maximum of 10 slides excluding the cover slide and one slide with the participants’ profile.
2.An executive summary of not more than 1500 words.

The content should clearly outline the objectives, methodology and impact of the work. Financials if required may also be discussed. The submissions have to be sent to 2012clairvoyance@gmail.com with the subject line as “Clairvoyance_Poster Competition_(Team name)”. The file should be named as "Clairvoyance_Poster Competition_(Team name)”. Evaluation would be done on the following criteria:

1.Concept Feasibility
2.Innovativeness
3.Depth of Analysis (in terms of the definition of the work to be done, methodology and the results/impact which were/can be achieved.)
4.Clarity and Communication.
Round 2:
Each of the teams would be required to make a Comprehensive Poster, covering all aspects of the project. The details about the second round would be communicated to the candidates shortlisted for the second round.

The finalists will present their Poster to an eminent panel comprising of Corporates, Experts from the health sector and Academicians.

DEADLINES:
Registrations and Submission for Round 1: Nov 21, 2012 (23:59:59 IST)
Declaration of Finalists for Round 2: Nov 24, 2012
Final Round: Dec 02, 2012.
